“The reason I consider myself a Conservative stems from my belief that this nation changes through a process of evolution rather than revolution. I want to protect all the institutions, customs and processes that hail from the United Kingdom’s long history. I do however recognise that we have gone wrong and that society can be improved- I think the best way to do this is through respecting the individual. John Stuart Mill’s Liberty Principle sums up my view. I believe that free trade and economic liberty and the spirit of meritocracy are the only ways to achieve a thriving Nation and true fairness. Those who work hard should be rewarded accordingly- those that do not cannot and should not expect to have an equal standard of living to those that do. We must however help those that are truly in need- those are the people worthy of our help. Lastly (although I could go on for much longer) I wish to maintain Great Britain’s national sovereignty and it’s influence in the world. That to me means maintaining political power in London rather than Brussels and ensuring our Armed Forces remain a truly global player.”
